I’m a selective fan of poetry. When it’s good, it’s good. When it’s bad, it can be something worse than bad. William Yeats’ poem, “The Second Coming,” is in my good category. No, not just in my good category. It’s in the good category, which is an entirely different thing (more on that, from time to time, but not now).
Anyway, hearing the news about the bombing in Oslo made me think about Yeats’ poem. “Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold…” The problem, though, is that we’ve been living inside that poem for centuries.
