Christmas in the Multiverse
Christmas carols get sung every year around the Christmas season (almost as soon as the Halloween decorations disappear, which seems a bit soon). I have nothing against the original melodies. Most of them are a lot of fun to sing, particularly if you have a lot of strong singers sitting around a bonfire, plus a good guitar player. There are some beautiful pieces in there with timeless music that’ll survive long past my years. But, despite that, I got to thinking one day, “Why not take the lyrics and do a little musical experimentation?”
I wrote and recorded these all myself. One electric guitar, a synthesizer, a vocal mic, a Mac and Logic Pro. Lots of vocal layering. And lots of fun. That’s how I ended up with the Inflatable Hippies doing this Christmas in the Multiverse album. Same lyrics. Very different melodies…

I wrote several different versions of some of these carols, but I only recorded a second version for Angels. Ran out time. I’m always running out of time. Good thing that time is not a pier.

Little Drummer Boy is not yet in the public domain, so I wasn’t able to include this one when I published this album on iTunes, Spotify etc. Still, this one was a lot of fun to do.

I borrowed this carol from Proxima Centauri, which is only a little more than four light years from our solar system. If you fiddle around with your short wave radio and the moon is reflecting light just so, you’ll probably be able to pick up their Christmas transmissions if you’re lucky. That’s how I found this tune.
