This is an old song from my Chicago band days. I originally wrote it as an acoustic ballad, but the band got hold of it. In this case, that means it turned into a progressive experiment. It’s long for a song, and there are a lot of different things going on inside, particularly in terms of how the rhythm changes. At the end, it turned into something more for musicians, rather than easy listening. Lyrically, it’s fairly dark, as it’s a meditation on what happens when the concepts of fealty and worship are turned upside down. It’s more of a studio song, but we actually used to play this thing live and we managed to keep it pretty tight.

  1. Cool song. I don’t think it’s too long. Maybe for a pop single, but as a rich progressive piece it moves right along. I’m glad you aired it out as a concert number. Bet it was sweet played live.

    • Thanks. It was a lot of fun to play live. My drummer and bassist were big prog-rock fans, so they were always veering off in that direction. It made for some interesting creative amalgamations.
